Shannon: “You’re the Ghostbusters, aren’t you?”
Peter: “Didn’t think you’d recognize us unless we had an ape along.”
Peter’s crack is in reference to the original Ghostbusters. In 1975 there was a show starring Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker that featured two men and a gorilla that hunted down ghosts on CBS Saturday Mornings. In 1986 an animated series took it a step further by having the ofsons those characters hunting down ghosts throughout space and time as well.
Due to Filmation owning the rights to the title Ghostbusters, several different titles were prepared for the 1984 movie in case the producers couldn’t secure the title. Fortunately, Filmation allowed the name to be used for the movie, but not the cartoon. That’s why The Real had to be added to the title of the animated series that followed 2 years later.
