Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Soundtrack Press Release

The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire soundtrack, featuring score music by Dario Marianelli, has just been released through digital platforms. You can buy it at Amazon. If you prefer physical media, the album will be released on CD on April 12, 2024. The vinyl release has yet to be announced.

NEW YORK, NY (March 22, 2024) – Sony Music Masterworks today releases GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) by Academy Award-winning composer DARIO MARIANELLI. Available everywhere now, the album features an original score written by Marianelli for the latest installment in the Ghostbusters film franchise. For his second collaboration with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan, Marianelli initially took inspiration from the iconic soundscape crafted by Elmer Bernstein for director Ivan Reitman's original 1984 blockbuster. The result is a nostalgia-inducing score that captures the spirit of Bernstein's well-loved soundtrack while establishing a distinct sound for the new film. Sony Pictures Entertainment's Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is now playing exclusively in movie theaters.

Of the album, composer DARIO MARIANELLI says, "Listening to the original score by Elmer Bernstein after 40 years, one is struck by the sheer unpredictability of the music. What an unexpected score that is, jumping without warning from the scary to the slapstick, from tiniest synthesizer twinkle to gorgeous and florid orchestrations, from the completely serious to the completely silly. It was a true honour for me to join Gil Kenan and the Ghostbusters family and be allowed to pay homage to -- and expand on --that crazy premise."

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a death chill upon the city, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

ABOUT DARIO MARIANELLI
Over the last three decades Dario Marianelli has written music for concerts, movies, television, theatre and contemporary dance.

Dario's hugely successful score for Atonement (2007) won an Oscar, Golden Globe and Ivor Novello Award, in addition to a BAFTA nomination and World Soundtrack Award. Other collaborations with director Joe Wright have achieved great acclaim; Pride & Prejudice (2006) won a Classical Brit Award and both Academy Award and Ivor Novello nominations. In May 2013, Dario's score for Anna Karenina won the Ivor Novello Award in the Best Score category alongside both BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. 2017 saw the release of the hugely successful Darkest Hour which won a host of Academy Awards and plaudits.
