Krispy Kreme 2024 Ghostbusters Doughnuts Unboxing Review
In early October 2024, Krispy Kreme released Ghostbusters doughnuts (henceforth "donuts") to various regions around the world. One of those regions was the United States, where the donuts were released in several different configurations. Join me as I do an unboxing review of them.
Again, let make make it clear that this will be a review of the donuts released in the United States in October 2024, which are slightly different than those released in other countries at the same time. Also, almost all photos can be clicked on for enlargements, and unless otherwise indicated, all photos were taken by me, Paul Rudoff.
The four official donuts in the Ghostbusters promotion are officially listed and described as such:
• Ghostbusters Cookies N' Creme Doughnut made with OREO - an Original Glazed doughnut dipped in chocolate icing, topped with OREO pieces, a dollop of buttercreme with OREO crumbles, and a No Ghost logo candy.
• Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Doughnut Pull-Apart - Original Glazed Doughnut Dots dusted with powdered sugar, topped with marshmallow-flavored buttercreme, and a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man candy.
• Slimer Doughnut - an unglazed doughnut filled with lemon-flavored green filling, dipped in purple and green icing, and finished with a Slimer candy.
• Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut - an Original Glazed doughnut dipped in orange icing, topped with neon sprinkles.
There isn't much to say about the donuts. If you've eaten a donut, you know what to expect here. The so-called "candy" decoration - featuring printings of the No Ghost logo, Stay Puft, and Slimer - isn't really candy. It's more like edible paper, as it doesn't have any real flavor to speak of. Cookies N' Creme is your standard ring-shaped pastry, "Slimer" is a lemon-flavored green goo-filled donut (photo below), and Stay Puft is tiny donut holes stuck together to form his "body". Although the "Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut" is officially considered one of the Ghostbusters donuts, I do not. It is an orange-glazed half-sprinkled donut and nothing more. It has no connection to Ghostbusters whatsoever, and the fact that the entire top isn't sprinkled reeks of cheapness, while still charging full price.
Individually, the donuts are $2.79 each, with Stay Puft at $3.19 each. Of course, there are multi-packs. The cheapest is the "Ghostbusters Specialty 3-Pack" for $7.99, which contains the three round donuts and comes in a generic white Krispy Kreme rectangular box.

The largest multi-pack is the (officially) 11-pack box for $20.99, which is available at Krispy Kreme shops (ORDER ONLINE). This configuration comes in a large box that is designed to be vaguely reminiscent of the ghost trap, with caution striping, "knobs and dials" and a "warning sticker". Officially, it includes three of each of the round donuts listed above, and two Stay Pufts.
I first encountered this box at Hasbro's New York Comic Con Breakfast Event on October 19, 2024.
Although the box I pulled a Stay Puft donut from was hardly complete.
A full box of 11 donuts should look like this...

...but your local Krispy Kreme shop may give you three Stay Pufts, and thus a dozen donuts, even if they are rather misshapen.
All along, I thought this large box was the only one there was. Imagine my surprise when I was doing my usual food shopping at the Stop & Shop supermarket at 465 Atlantic Avenue in Oceanside, New York and saw this sign staring at me atop the Krispy Kreme display.
There was another smaller Ghostbusters sign attached to the shelf on the Krispy Kreme display. The small print on the signs indicate that both are to be pulled down on November 1st, which tells me that the Ghostbusters donuts are only going to be available until October 31st. It makes sense that the promotion will end after Halloween.
Unlike the box sold at Krispy Kreme shops, the box I found here was a pre-packaged 6-pack for $12.99 (GROCERY STORE LOCATOR).
Unlike the big box, this smaller box has a clear see-through "window" showing off the goods inside.
The other sides of the box are very similar to the big box, with the same "warning sticker", but no "knobs and dials".
Opening up the box we find six donuts. One No Ghost logo, one Slimer, one lazy orange-frosted half-sprinkled, and three lazier brown-frosted barely-sprinkled. No Stay Puft pull-apart doughnut is included.
Here is a close-up of the No Ghost logo edible decoration.

That's all of the Ghostbusters donuts and boxes that I am aware of here in the United States. All of this should still be available for the remainder of October, order online or use the online locator to find a Krispy Kreme shop or a grocery store near you.
