Ghostbusters In PlayStation Home
Yes, I know, this article should have been written in June 2009 when the topic at hand was fresh and new. Unfortunately, I didn't get a PlayStation 3 until recently, so you'll have to make due with it being 2.5 years late. With that out of the way...
PlayStation Home is a virtual 3D social gaming platform for the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network (PSN). Membership is free, and only requires a PSN account. Home allows users to create a custom avatar, and decorate their avatar's personal apartment with various items. In June 2009, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters and the release of Atari's video game, many Ghostbusters items were made available for purchase, including a firehouse personal space. Below is a list of all items available for purchase with the current prices as of this writing. All of these items are available in the Loot Store. Go to the Mall 2nd Floor, then walk forward and a little to the right, and enter the Loot store. You can also get into the Loot store through the Navigator (hold down the Start button); scroll all the way to the right to the Shop column, and then scroll down to Loot Store. Once you're in the Loot store, select the No Ghost logo from the main menu (third row, third column). Every Ghostbusters item is in here, including a lot of junk that is NOT Ghostbusters related... in spite of Loot including the word "Ghostbusters" in the name of every item. I mean, "Ghostbusters Toast"... really?!? I will NOT be listing these non-Ghostbusters items below.
Yes, the first two items are completely free. Go get them right now, if you haven't already. Also, everything listed and priced is for the U.S. (North American) version of Home. Pricing and items may different in other regions.
If you don't want to give Sony your financial information (or you can't for whatever reason), you can add money to your PSN account by purchasing PlayStation Network cards. They are available in $20 and $50 amounts. You can buy them from Target, Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, and lots of other places. If you want to buy them online, I suggest getting them from Amazon - they sell them in several amounts and you get the code almost instantly via e-mail: $10, $20, $50, $75, and $100. The only downside that that Amazon doesn't accept PayPal.

The Stay Puft Happy T-Shirt Male is exclusive to the Ornaments Fan Pack, while the Stay Puft Head is exclusive to the Firehouse. I don't know if it's a glitch, but I found that one costume part did not come with each gender's costume bundle.
The male torso comes with full proton pack on his back, while the female torso comes with a mini-proton pack backpack (it's just the cyclotron). The male is wearing pants (proper ghostbusting attire), while the female is stuck in shorts. Her legs are gonna take quite a beating...and a sliming. If you want the female to be wearing the more appropriate pants, instead of shorts, one idea for a replacement is this:
• Threads - A-Z - Female - Originals - Pants - Beige Trousers ($0.25)
It's not an exact match to the uniform top as they're a little darker, but it's close. You would still have the pathetic-looking mini-proton pack, so she'd still look like she's playing dress-up and not actually working as a ghostbuster.
The male pants include the top part of the boots (the high-top and laces), which is why they look really odd with different (or no) footwear on. Both male and female pants/shorts have a protrusion on the left side, which (I think) is where the hose came out of on the real uniform. It looks odd without the hose and should have been left off.
They made a Stay Puft head, but didn't make a body. There isn't even a sailor suit in any of the stores that you can add to it. The best you can do is a "naked Stay Puft" using the Echochrome outfit. Echochrome is a playable arcade mini-game in the Bowling Alley space. According to online sources, you get the Echochrome Outfit (gloves, shirt, pants, shoes) when you receive 4000 points on Level A in the mini-game. Pictures of the naked Stay Puft are further below.
In an effort to be complete, here's the list of individually-priced items that you get within all of the bundles listed above. You do NOT need to buy any of these items separately as you'll get them when you buy everything listed above.

Although they have some nice shirts and home decorations, I am greatly disappointed in the selection. What disappoints me most is the lack of some obvious items, like Vigo and Eleanor Twitty (library ghost) paintings to hang on the walls, or a free Ghostbusters II hot thermal mug and balloon for the kiddies. These items were objects in the video game, so they could have easily ported over the models to Home, like they did with the firehouse. Speaking of lost opportunities to port over video game objects... why didn't they port over the Possessed Bell-Bottom Jeans as a tag-along companion? Imagine the looks on other Home users faces when they see this pair of person-less pants walking behind you where ever you go, all while it plays funky '70s music.
A couple of videos are available for your viewing pleasure. Up first is the Ghostbusters Ornaments Fan Pack Promotional Video (from May 28, 2009). You'll notice that the original price was $1.99, but it has gone down to $0.99 now. It's about time something decreased in price instead of increasing. Second, is the Ghostbusters Firehouse Promotional Video (from June 17, 2009), which is also available for free viewing in the Loot Space Station theater. Get into the Loot EOD interface (in the theater itself), scroll down the main menu to Loot, then scroll to the right to The Ghostbusters Firehouse. You can't miss the No Ghost logo icon. Press X to watch the video.
The Ghostbusters Firehouse interior is in Home as a personal space, as previously mentioned. But what good is a firehouse interior without the exterior? Well, that's in PlayStation Home, too. No kidding. Head on over to the area known as The Playground. If you're new to Home, bring up the Navigator by holding down the Start button. Scroll all the way to the right to get to the Explore category. Then scroll down the alphabetically-sorted list until you get to The Playground. Press X to download and go there.
Once you arrive in The Playground, look in the back left corner, right next to the block party dance stage. There's an awfully familiar looking building in that corner, albeit slightly widened due to an extra door being added. Even the front door is an exact match for the real building that the NYFD is currently using. That's no coincidence.
Sadly, there are no hotspots on the building. That's a missed opportunity, if you ask me. If Sony would only make a public version of the Ghostbusters Firehouse space available, they could (and should) link it to that exterior and have the ultimate Home hangout. They could use it as an enticement for people to buy the Ghostbusters Firehouse personal space, especially since that would come with extras that the public space would not provide. Put one of the ubiquitous Commerce Points on the Ghostbusters lockers, and people can buy the firehouse itself, or any of the Ghostbusters items right there in the Firehouse public space. License to print money. That's much better than hiding the Ghostbusters goods in the Loot store, as most people don't even know that they're there. It took me a week to find the Ghostbusters goods, and I found them through an ass-backwards side store (the Ghostbusters mini-store you get when you press Square while on the firehouse promo video in the Loot Space Station theater).
Anyway, a little more about the exterior... As I said, there are no hotspots on it, but there are some chairs in front that you can sit on. Of course, you can also do what I did and pull out the camera accessory and take pictures of yourself (that's my buster babe below) and/or your friends in front of it. The dance stage provides a nice spot to stand on, as long as no one else is dancing on it. You don't want other people to get in your way or to clutter up your photos. Also, down the block from the firehouse is the East River, across from which you can see Manhattan. This means that the PlayStation Home firehouse is in Brooklyn.
I've met a few cool Ghostheads in Home. The first person I saw with the Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary shirt on, and thus the first person I ever friended - because I only send out friend requests to people with good taste - is "tsam160". He was kind enough to let me snap this picture of him wearing the shirt.
I was in the Star Wars Cantina and who should I see doing the Cabbage Patch in front of the Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes house band? Why a naked Mr. Stay Puft, of course! Actually, it's "BACDCLXVI" wearing the Stay Puft head (comes with the firehouse) with a generic white body (the Echochrome outfit). (He's not the first person who thought to put the two together.) In lieu of an actual sailor suit in Home, this is the next best thing. It certainly took me by surprise. And here I thought that the place was just a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
And that brings me to the end of my extensive look at all of the Ghostbusters items available in PlayStation Home. I'll leave you with a few free PSN redemption codes that will net you some free shirts in Home and a dynamic theme for your PS3. Enter the codes in the PlayStation Store before you enter Home. These codes have been passed all around the internet, but since they still work, I thought I'd share. Enjoy!

[UPDATE - 4/20/2012]
You can now watch Ghostbusters 1 & 2 for FREE via Crackle in the LOOT Space Station Theater. Even better than that, you get a free Ghostbusters II movie poster just for starting to watch that movie. Hang this poster up in your personal space. It looks great in the firehouse!
There's no free movie poster for Ghostbusters 1, unfortunately. However, there are plenty of other free movie posters that you can get, too. You don't even have to watch the movies in their entirety. You get the goods as soon as the pre-movie commercial starts playing.
When I first started writing this post back in January 2012, I got free posters from: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Heavy Metal 2000, Hollow Man II, Last Action Hero, Metropolis, Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different, Night Of The Living Dead (1990), Reign Over Me, Resident Evil: Degeneration, Single White Female, Sniper, So I Married An Axe Murderer, St. Elmo's Fire, Steamboy, Stranger Than Fiction, The Last Picture Show, Tokyo Godfathers, and Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman. I also got a Resident Evil (2002) poster when I watched my first video. I got it for watching a Karate Kid cartoon minisode from 1989. Kudos if you actually remember the Karate Kid cartoon series. I had totally forgotten about it until I watched the video.
Some of those movies are no longer available, though plenty of new ones were added. Just keep checking out the Crackle section of the LOOT Space Station Theater for the latest.
