Things You May Have Missed in Ghostbusters: Afterlife - Egon's Easter Eggs
As a result of doing 1,550 Blu-ray framegrabs from Ghostbusters: Afterlife for the Spook Central VIPs, with some extra movie framegrabs and behind-the-scenes images for the Spook Central Facebook page, I became intimately familiar with the movie on a shot-by-shot and frame-by-frame basis. This familiarity has lead me to discover things about the movie that you may have missed from a normal viewing, and thus I am writing a series of articles to present these discoveries to you.
It should be noted that, for the most part, these "Things You May Have Missed in Ghostbusters: Afterlife" articles will not discuss the myriad of references and Easter eggs in the movie, most of which are illustrated in the "We Got One! Easter Eggs Revealed" featurette on the Blu-ray release. Also, it probably doesn't need to be said at this point, but just in case some of you still have not seen the film, let's just say SPOILER WARNING if you read any further. Finally, all images can be clicked on for the original Blu-ray framegrab. Now that all of that is out of the way, let's get to it...
Egon's secret lab is a treasure trove of Easter eggs. Most of them were pointed out in the "We Got One! Easter Eggs Revealed" featurette on the Blu-ray, such as the Maid doorknob sign...
...the many boxes of Cheez-Its...
...the Aura Video-Analyzer (aka "colander hat") sitting on the worktable that Podcast eventually puts on...
...and that strange orange piece of equipment that was in the Paranormal Studies lab at Columbia University, which page 80 of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife: The Art and Making of the Movie" by Ozzy Inguanzo says is a Wolverson Angiographic Injector (or a MEDRAD Mark IV Angiographic Injector as photos online show).
However, there are a few more eggs to be found which the featurette didn't point out. Yeah, it pointed out the United Technologies/Bacharach Sniffer 300...
...but did you notice the Giga Meter from Ghostbusters II in that shot (at 45:32) as well? (The image on the right below was pulled from a 4K copy of the film; click here for the original 3840x1596 framegrab.)
At 1:25:09 - After Callie slides down the pole into the lab, there's an egg hidden in the shadows on the left that I bet you missed. It's the "Caution Laser Light" sign that was in the Columbia University Paranormal Studies Lab in the first film.
By the way, page 79 of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife: The Art and Making of the Movie" by Ozzy Inguanzo provides close-ups of some of Egon's diplomas, which are seen on the wall in the shot with the Sniffer and Giga Meter.
There are a few other eggs to be found, such as Egon's collection of spores, molds, and fungus. That's so obvious, that I didn't think I needed to point it out. A few around his uniform locker were pointed out in a previous Missed article. I don't know if there are any more eggs are in the lab. I may have found them all. If I didn't, post your finds in the comments section below.
