Running Press' Ghostbusters Light-Up Slimer Review

Running Press recently released the Ghostbusters Light-Up Slimer. Read on to find out more about it...

As seen in the stock image above, this is a set that includes the light-up Slimer display piece and a small hardcover book. The set comes in a 8" x 10" x 3.75" box featuring the standard uniform style, with a splash of green slime behind the logo on a red background on the side, and the product specs on a black tech-like background on the back.


The three-dimensional Slimer comes protruding through a brick wall background, which means that he doesn't have a backside, which will greatly disappoint some folks. (Hi, Jason) Slimer himself is approx. 5" x 5" x 2", while the background frame is roughly 6.5" x 8". The frame can either be hung (via two holes on the back)...


...or it can stand securely when attached to the included 6.75" x 3" x 1" die-cast metal base adorned with the classic Ghostbusters title. The base has some weight to it (10.3oz to be precise) and features four non-slip grips on the bottom.


The item has lights and sounds, which requires three AA batteries (not included) that are inserted in the back of the frame through a screw-on battery compartment. On the side of the frame is a switch with three options: Off, Light On, and Sensor.


When set to "Light On", Slimer will illuminate.


When set to "Sensor", not only will Slimer glow when motion is sensed, but he will also grunt and groan, with audio that sounds like it was lifted straight from the original 1984 film.


Also included is a full-color, 48-page hardcover book entitled "The Slime-orific, Ghostly, Ghastly, Downright Spooky, Stay-on-the-Island (If You Dare) Guide to New York City". Geez, who wrote that title, Erin and Abby? No, the 5.25" x 7.25" book was written by Van Sias. The front cover features the title on a name patch, accompanied by the No Ghost logo, while the back is plain black with a few circuit board red lines on it.


The book, which is not available separately, explores the in-universe locations seen in the first two Ghostbusters films. As per the table of contents, here is what you'll find inside:

Again, it's important to note that everything is written IN UNIVERSE! The street addresses of the real world locations and their history is not mentioned. Each location is documented from the perspective of the film events having taken place there back in the 1980s, with framegrabs from the two movies being the primary source for the images.


The Ghostbusters Light-Up Slimer is available now and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It is a great display piece and looks great on a desk or a shelf among your other Ghostbusters collectibles. I was actually quite surprised by how big it is, as I was expecting for it to be a miniature, like all of Running Press' other Ghostbusters offerings. The book is nice, too, though I would have preferred that it documented the locations in the real world instead of in-universe.
