Warner Brothers recently released the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part One (2024) 4K UHD. Let's take a look at it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
Death is coming. Worse than death: oblivion. Not just for our Earth, but for everyone, everywhere, in every universe! Against this ultimate destruction, the mysterious Monitor has gathered the greatest team of Super Heroes ever assembled. But what can the combined might of Superman (Darren Criss), Wonder Woman (Stana Katic), Batman (Jensen Ackles), The Flash (Matt Bomer), and hundreds of Super Heroes from multiple Earths, even do to save all of reality from an unstoppable antimatter Armageddon?!
[ SPECIFICATIONS ]
The movie is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a runtime of 1:32:48. The movie has been rated PG-13 for some violence and brief strong language. Audio languages include English, French, and Spanish. Subtitle languages English SDH, French, Spanish, and Dutch.
[ SPECIAL FEATURES ]
All of the content listed below can be found on the 4K disc.
- Crisis Prime(r) (9:39) - The filmmakers reveal in detail their intricate plan to create a comprehensive animated universe across seven films, concluding with the events of the three-part adaptation Justice League Crisis on Infinite Earths.
- The Selfless Speedster (8:02) - Explore The Flash's legendary role in the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" comic series, the creative process that brought him to life in the animated adaptation, and the vocal performance by Matt Bomer behind his heroic and romantic story.
A digital copy code voucher is included inside the one-disc Steelbook case, which features a heroic pose by ten superheroes hovering in space on the cover, with The Flash front and center. The back cover just features a bunch of planets breaking up. Inside we have a shot of the superheroes gathered at headquarters, with The Flash being the focus. Interesting, the promo image shows places for TWO discs, while the final product only has one disc. Finally, there is no slipcover.
[ NOTES ]
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part One (2024), which is available separately (no combo pack) on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, is loosely based on the iconic 1985-1986 comic book series by Marv Wolfman and the late George Perez (to whom the film is dedicated). Part One is beautifully animated and voice-acted, but the story has pacing issues and feels like "filler" most of the time, ending on an unsatisfying cliffhanger. I would really suggest holding off on a purchase until Parts 2 and 3 come out later in 2024. Perhaps at that time, all three parts will be collected into a single release.
As explained in the special features, Crisis on Infinite Earths is intended as the conclusion of the DC Animated Universe's "Tomorrowverse" film series, which includes these films that have been released between 2020 and 2023: Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Justice Society: World War II, the two-part Batman: The Long Halloween, Green Lantern: Beware My Power, The Legion of Super-Heroes, and Justice League: Warworld. I have to wonder if when Crisis on Infinite Earths Parts 2 & 3 are released later this year, Warner Brothers will release one box set containing all of these films. That would be nice.
