Mill Creek Entertainment recently released the Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) Steelbook Blu-ray. Let's take a look at it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
One of the most iconic figures in rock history, Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) had it all: the women (over 411 served), the friends (Elvis, The Beatles) and the rock 'n' roll lifestyle (a close and personal relationship with every pill and powder known to man). But most of all, he had the music that transformed a dimwitted country boy into the greatest American rock star who never lived. A wild and wicked send-up of every musical biopic ever made, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is gut-busting proof that when it comes to hard rocking, living and laughing, a hard man is good to find.
[ SPECIFICATIONS ]
The movie is presented in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio with a runtime of 2:00:19 for the "The Unbearably Long Self-Indulgent Director's Cut" (Disc 1) and 1:36:03 for the Theatrical Cut (Disc 2). The Theatrical Cut of the movie has been rated R for sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. Audio languages include English. Subtitle languages include English SDH.
[ SPECIAL FEATURES ]
All of the content listed below can be found on the Blu-ray discs. Disc 1 is the Director's Cut, Disc 2 is the Theatrical Cut.

- DISC 1: The Music of Walk Hard (16:37) - An entertaining featurette that shows the skill that went into crafting the great music heard in the film.
- DISC 1: The Making of Walk Hard (15:05) - A soft promotional piece of fluff.
- DISC 1: The Real Dewey Cox (14:04) - A faux "Behind the Music"-like show featuring pop stars Jewel Kilcher, Ghostface Killah, John Mayer, and Sheryl Crow.
- DISC 1: The Last Word with John Hodgman (26:00) - A mockumentary on the life of Dewey Cox.
- DISC 2: Full Song Performances (41:44) - There is no identifying information for the 16 songs included here, but on the previous DVD and Blu-ray releases, they were labeled as such: "Gamblin' Man", "Walk Hard", "(I Hate You) Big Daddy", "A Life Without You", "Let's Duet", "Guilty As Charged", "Dear Mr. President", "The Mulatto Song", "Royal Jelly", "Hey Mr. Old Guy", "Farmer Glickstein", "Billy Don't Be a Hero", "Starman", "(You Make Me So) Hard", "My Girl" (The Temptations), and "Walk Hard" (All Star Band).
- DISC 2: Deleted and Extended Scenes (19:25) - There is no identifying information for the 9 scenes included here, but on the previous DVD and Blu-ray releases, they were labeled as such: "Basement Songwriting", "Drug Deal", "Prison", "Rehab #1", "Beatles", "Alternate Acid Trip", "Rehab #2", "Gail MacNamara", and "Eddie Vedder Speech".
- DISC 2: Line-O-Rama (6:22) - A quick edit of missed line readings and other crack-ups on the set.
- DISC 2: A Christmas Song From Dewey Cox (2:45) - As the title says, Mr. Cox performs a Christmas song.
- DISC 2: Cox Sausage Commercial with Outtakes (2:23) - Scenes from this faux commercial appeared in the original trailer for Walk Hard. Well, here is the complete commercial, as well as outtakes from it. The trailer, unfortunately, is not here.
No digital copy code voucher is included inside the beautiful Steelbook case, which features Dewey playing guitar on the front, and showing him from behind on the back. The inside features photos of Dewey's bandmates under the disc on the left, and Dewey himself under the disc on the right side.
[ NOTES ]
The Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) Steelbook Blu-ray is currently a Walmart-exclusive. I do not know if it will be available at other retailers at a later date. I was surprised by how funny this movie is, and enjoyed the numerous cameos from the likes of Harold Ramis as L'Chaim; and the uncredited quartet of Jack Black, Justin Long, Paul Rudd, and Jason Schwartzman as The Beatles. I could easily recommend this movie and this beautiful Steelbook release, as long as you don't mind that a few previously-released extras are missing. Sony's 2-Disc Unrated Edition Blu-ray includes everything found here, as well as 39-minutes of "Song Demos", "Tyler Nilson: A Coxumentary" (6 min), "Bull on the Loose" (4 min), and three 3-minute "Coxologist" featurettes ("Royal Jelly", "Mulatto", "Midget Man").
