Film Masters recently released the The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes / Silver Blaze Blu-ray. Read on to find out more about it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel "The Valley of Fear", The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes (1935) has detective Sherlock Holmes (Arthur Wontner) coming out of retirement when a country gentleman is murdered by an American gang. As his story is told in flashbacks, we learn not only that the dead man's life was shrouded in mystery, but that his death may be linked to Holmes' infamous rival, Moriarty. Silver Blaze (1937), also known as Murder at the Baskervilles, sees Sherlock Holmes' holiday disrupted when he finds himself in the middle of a double-murder mystery. This Holmes adventure finds the grand master of sleuthing in the world of horse racing, and was based on the Arthur Conan Doyle tale "The Adventure of Silver Blaze".

[ NOTES ]
The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes / Silver Blaze is available on Blu-ray (MOD Recorded BD-R) and DVD (MOD Recorded DVD-R). I do not think that there is a factory-pressed disc in either format. Regardless, these early Sherlock Holmes films are well worth a watch for any fans of the detective.
As an FYI: The release I'm reviewing is a Manufacture On Demand Recorded Blu-ray, not a factory-pressed disc. If online artwork and the case spine says "Blu-ray Disc" in plain text, it's a BD-R recorded disc. If it has a Blu-ray logo, it's a factory-pressed disc. (IMPORTANT NOTE: IN THIS ONE INSTANCE, ONLINE LISTINGS MAY SHOW A STOCK IMAGE OF A CASE WITH THE BLU-RAY LOGO ON IT, WHICH IS AN ERROR. THE ACTUAL PRODUCT DOESN'T HAVE THAT LOGO AND IS A RECORDED BLU-RAY DISC.) If you have the disc in hand, a purple bottom is a recorded disc, and a silver bottom is a pressed disc. It is said that factory-pressed discs last longer than recorded discs, aside from those made by Warner Brothers in the late 2000s. I don't know if that's true, but if it matters to you, I'm letting you know.
