The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021) was recently released on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack by Universal. Read on to find out more about it...
[ SYNOPSIS ]
He may be a big-shot moneyman now, but Ted Templeton (voiced by Alec Baldwin) flashes back to his Boss Baby past when he and his brother Tim (voiced by James Marsden) renew their rivalry and make a shocking discovery! Turns out, Tim's infant daughter Tina (voiced by Amy Sedaris) inherited Uncle Ted's job as an undercover BabyCorp agent. She's on a secret mission to stop an evil plan to turn babies into brats, and she needs both brothers to help! Ted and Tim now have to turn back into kids for an adventure that reminds them of the true power of family!
[ QUICK THOUGHTS ]
The Templeton brothers are all grown up, and new "Boss Baby" Tina is introduced (along with her sister Tabitha, voiced by Ariana Greenblatt), but the story decides to revert the brothers back to their kid forms and focus on them rather than on Tina and Tabitha. It makes me wonder why they even bothered to introduce Tina at all, since she has very little to do in the film and is barely seen. Also, why did Tina revert Ted and Tim to the exact same ages they were in the original The Boss Baby film? She could have made them both babies, or both any ages she wanted. That aspect of the story reminds me of Men in Black II, which undid the ending of the first film just to give us Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as the main team again. Anyway, the story here is irrelevant as it's more about the visuals and fast-paced action. In that regard, the movie succeeds. The voice cast is excellent - Alex Baldwin was born to play this role - though I feel that Jeff Goldblum (as Dr. Armstrong) was miscast. He voice is SO distinctively Jeff Goldblum, that I couldn't believe him as another character. I kept expecting Dr. Armstrong to sell me an apartment at any time. My sister and I watched The Boss Baby: Family Business together. She tends to be more forgiving of movies like this, and even she felt this one wasn't as good as the original.
