Neca $9.99 Superhero Blind Bag Unboxing Review
By Paul Rudoff on Jul. 9, 2020 at 8:54 PM in Mystery/Blind Bags
I've written about many repack mystery boxes/blind bags already, including Neca's previous $6.99 Superhero Blind Bag. Today, for the first time since April, I was able to easily enter my local Target store. I just happened to walk by at a time when there weren't people lined up outside the building in the Summer heat. As mentioned in my July 9, 2020 Shopping Report, I found one of these $9.99 blind bags, which may have been floating around the store for the past six to twelve months. I finally took it home, so read on to find out what was inside...
The bag proclaims that it contains "over $25 worth of toys and collectibles". Let's rip it open see if that's true.
• Bioworld Marvel Avengers Crew Socks (size 10-13)
• Loot Crate Marvel Gear Goods: The Avengers "Behold The Vision" Comic Book Cover Pin
• Bioworld Deadpool Lanyard with Face Tag, Sticker, Card Holder
• PhatMojo/Loot Crate Thor vs. Loki Minifigure Set
I can't tell you if those four items are actually worth more than $25. The socks are, probably, the highest valued item here. Unlike the $6.99 bag, there is no plush inside. I knew this before I made the purchase, as you can tell from feeling the bag that there isn't one inside anymore. I guess the socks take the place of the plush in terms of value.
The socks are really nice, featuring Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, and Black Widow. That's not exactly what I meant when I wished for Scarlett Johansson around my legs, but I'll take it :-)
It seems that these items are Loot Crate leftovers. No more is that apparent than with this Loot Crate pin, which features the cover of The Avengers #57 from October 1, 1968. This comic marked the first appearance of the Vision. The pin measures 1.25"x2".
The Bioworld Deadpool lanyard comes with a face tag, and a sticker inside the card holder.
Finally, the PhatMojo Thor vs. Loki minifigure set is another Loot Crate item. Apparently, it's part of a Marvel Collector's Series of little figures that you kinda build, each (presumably) with a display stand. Each figure has an oversized head, which you snap onto the body, then you snap the figures into the stand. The display stand for this set is Loki's Throne, I think. The figures are roughly 2" high, and the stand is a little over 1.5" tall.
Overall, not a bad blind bag, though I wish Neca included a few more items for the higher price. A little more variety would have been nice, as well, since it was all Marvel stuff.
[UPDATE - 8/17/2020]
I went to my local Target today and saw that Neca now has FOUR different $9.99 blind bags. The "Superhero" bag is now joined by "Sci-Fi and Horror", "Gamer", and "Pop Culture". I was going to buy one of each, but I did not feel like waiting in the long checkout line. They had plenty in stock, so maybe another day. If I buy them, I will definitely do a review/unboxing article about them.
