Neca $9.99 Gamer Blind Bag Unboxing Review

I've written about many repack mystery boxes/blind bags already, including several of Neca's themed blind bags. I recently found in my local Target a bunch of new themed blind bags from Neca. I bought each of them so that I could give you all an idea as to what you'll find in them. Read on to find out what's inside the GAMER BLIND BAG...
Before I get to the bag contents, I'm going to do a bit of a spoiler and tell you that every one of these $9.99 Neca blind bags contains (mostly) Loot Crate leftovers. If you're unfamiliar with Loot Crate, it's a "mystery box" subscription service. Every month you get a box of random items based upon a particular theme or subject. It's kinda like a "deluxe" version of what these blind bags are. All of the stuff that Loot Crate has left over after years of reusing them in their various themed-boxes has to go somewhere... and these Neca blinds bags are where they end up. However, the items may not include the original packaging. There are many items I've found in these bags without their outer box and inner packaging materials. I really wish Neca would stop throwing out parts of the product, especially because the outer box tells you exactly what the product is - and that's not always easy to figure out without it. Yes, I realize that they do it so they can fit certain items into these blind bags, but to me, that makes some of these items "incomplete".
The bag proclaims that it contains "over $25 worth of toys and collectibles". It's hard to say if that's true or not because none of these items were ever sold separately. They were all sold as part of a collection. Sure, eBay resellers have them listed separately, but those prices are made up by each seller, and are not consistent with each other. The same item could be listed for $5 from one seller, and $25 from another. Honestly, the value of any item is what someone is willing to pay for it, so these items are worth $9.99 and nothing more. If you can resell them on eBay and get more than $9.99 for them in total, then good for you!
Okay, with that out of the way, let's rip this puppy open and see what's inside.
• Loot Crate Fallout Vault Boy "Fortune Finder Perk" Statue
• Loot Crate Taito Space Invaders Green/Blue Mini Alien Vinyl Figure
• Kidrobot The Simpsons 25th Anniversary Donut Keychain
• Loot Crate Marvel Deadpool "Club Merc" Lanyard
Yes, you only get four items in these bags, so it's $2.50 per item. That's a fair price for some of these items.
This nearly 5-inch tall statue depicts Vault Boy from the Fallout video game series using a metal detector in a scrapyard. A quick bit of research tells me that it came from the December 2018 Loot Crate box, is officially titled the "Fortune Finder Perk" statue, and originally came in a blue box, which Neca discarded so that the statue could fit into the blind bag. The figure and the base (measures 4.25") are two separate plastic pieces that snap together. Under the base, the copyright information gives a 2018 date and credit to Loot Crate and Bethestha Softworks. While I'm not a big Fallout fan, I do own all of the PlayStation 3 video games, and this is a nice little item.
This green and blue alien from the classic Space Invaders video game is... well, I don't know what the hell it is. I guess it's a statue. Maybe it's a paperweight. If Neca didn't throw out the box, I would have known that it's a "Mini Alien Vinyl Figure". It's 2.75" wide, 2" tall, and 1" thick. The only branding on it is "Official Taito Licensed Product" on the bottom with a 2015 copyright date. I assume it came from Loot Crate. The game is great, a true classic, but I'm not really digging this little guy.
Part of Kidrobot's "The Simpsons 25th Anniversary Keychain Series" (released in 2017), this sealed 2"x2"x2" box contained a small 1.25" "eaten donut" keychain sealed in a red blind bag. Looking at the pictures on the sides of the box, this series contains little items associated with the series, such as a can of Duff Beer, a can of Buzz Cola, a Squishee, the three-eyed fish, this eaten donut, and other less iconic items. The donut is better than many of the other items, but I can't say I'm thrilled with this item for one very simple reason: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH VIDEO GAMES!!! When I reviewed the $6.99 Superhero Blind Bag, I noted that it contained items that didn't keep with the theme. I even brought that issue to Neca's attention. I thought Neca learned, but obvious they didn't.
Well, lookee here. Yet another item that has NOTHING TO DO WITH VIDEO GAMES. It's a Deadpool "Club Merc" Lanyard from Loot Crate with a 2018 copyright date. The front of the ID card is meant to look like it's made with duct tape. On the back is a line to put an "authorized signature" on, and below that is the text, "Man, I love duct tape. I love how it tapes. I love the sound it makes. I love saying it." Then the words "duct tape" are repeated dozens of times. The lanyard has the red and black faces of Deadpool, with the words "Deadpool Club Merc", all repeated down the whole length of the lanyard. There's really nothing special about this, and even if it were in a proper "superhero" blind bag, I still couldn't care less about this. I have no interest in lanyards, and this one is about as plain as they get.
Overall, a pretty shitty blind bag. I can't complain about the minimal amount of items, because based on my experience, four items is standard for these. What I can complain about is that HALF OF THE ITEMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VIDEO GAME THEME! Let's hope the Sci-Fi and Horror Blind Bag is better. See you in two days for that one.
