Neca $9.99 Sci-Fi and Horror Blind Bag Unboxing Review

I've written about many repack mystery boxes/blind bags already, including several of Neca's themed blind bags. I recently found in my local Target a bunch of new themed blind bags from Neca. I bought each of them so that I could give you all an idea as to what you'll find in them. Read on to find out what's inside the SCI-FI AND HORROR BLIND BAG...
Before I get to the bag contents, I'm going to do a bit of a spoiler and tell you that every one of these $9.99 Neca blind bags contains (mostly) Loot Crate leftovers. If you're unfamiliar with Loot Crate, it's a "mystery box" subscription service. Every month you get a box of random items based upon a particular theme or subject. It's kinda like a "deluxe" version of what these blind bags are. All of the stuff that Loot Crate has left over after years of reusing them in their various themed-boxes has to go somewhere... and these Neca blinds bags are where they end up. However, the items may not include the original packaging. There are many items I've found in these bags without their outer box and inner packaging materials. I really wish Neca would stop throwing out parts of the product, especially because the outer box tells you exactly what the product is - and that's not always easy to figure out without it. Yes, I realize that they do it so they can fit certain items into these blind bags, but to me, that makes some of these items "incomplete".
The bag proclaims that it contains "over $25 worth of toys and collectibles". It's hard to say if that's true or not because none of these items were ever sold separately. They were all sold as part of a collection. Sure, eBay resellers have them listed separately, but those prices are made up by each seller, and are not consistent with each other. The same item could be listed for $5 from one seller, and $25 from another. Honestly, the value of any item is what someone is willing to pay for it, so these items are worth $9.99 and nothing more. If you can resell them on eBay and get more than $9.99 for them in total, then good for you!
Okay, with that out of the way, let's rip this puppy open and see what's inside.
• Loot Crate American Horror Story Hotel Cortez Key Ring
• Loot Crate Predator Mask Bottle Opener
• Loot Crate Harry Potter Golden Snitch Trinket Box
• Happy Wonder Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Collector Stress Reliever
Yes, you only get four items in these bags, so it's $2.50 per item. That's a fair price for some of these items.
First out of the bag is the "Hotel Cortez" key ring from the American Horror Story television series. This Loot Crate exclusive, with a 2018 copyright date, is attached to a 3"x8" card with a "Please Service Room" doortag replica on the back. The key ring appears to be brass with the hotel's "HC" art deco logo on it, and red tassels hanging from below. A fake key is also attached to it. Aside from the first episode, and season 9 (the 1984/Mr. Jingles season), I have not seen this series. I had to look it up to find out that Hotel Cortez is from season 5. I certainly don't need another key ring/chain, but for fans of American Horror Story, this is a great item.
Here's something interesting. It's a brass (I think) bottle opener designed to look like the Predator's mask. It's roughly 2.5"x3" and is from Loot Crate with a 2017 copyright date. It think it's pretty cool.
Here we find a Harry Potter Golden Snitch Trinket Box from Loot Crate. No date is given on the product, but some research tells me that it was part of the JK Rowling's Wizarding World Crate in May 2019. (More photos appear at the bottom of the previously-linked page.) The snitch, which has already revealed the phrase "I Open at the Close", can be opened up to keep some precious trinkets inside, or just sit on a desk/shelf as a display piece. It's about 3.5" tall (from bottom of the sphere to the top of the wings), and features a Resurrection stone inlaid on the inside of its lid.
Just like the Gamer Blind Bag, things go downhill with the second half of the items in the bag. Harry Potter is fantasy, not sci-fi or horror. Sci-Fi is "science fiction", which as the name implies, deals with fiction that has some kind of basis in science and technology. That is quite the opposite of fantasy, which deals with things of a fantastical nature. Wizards, spells, dragons, and all of that stuff that is easily found in Harry Potter is pure fantasy. THIS ITEM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SCI-FI OR HORROR!!!
Now, ain't this a kick. It's a Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Collector Stress Reliever by Happy Wonder. It was in Loot Crate's September 2015 box, according to Amazon, which gels with the 2015 copyright date on the packaging. Yeah, it's five years old. Like I said, these are things that Loot Crate off-loaded to Neca to get rid of. Anyway, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play online digital collectible card game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment that was released on March 11, 2014. This stress reliever (aka "stress ball") is designed to look like a blue stone from the game, I assume. So, it's yet another item that has NOTHING TO DO WITH SCI-FI OR HORROR. In fact, this item should have been in the Gamer Blind Bag!
Overall, I'm not too thrilled with this blind bag, either. Again, HALF OF THE ITEMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BAG'S THEME! My final hope resides in the three Pop Culture Blind Bags I bought. Will they disappoint as well? We will find out in two days.
