[ NOTES ]
The Conjuring (2013) is available on 4K UHD, 4K UHD Steelbook, Blu-ray, and DVD. I thought the movie was a really good haunted house tale, though it's hardly "one of the scariest movies ever made", as the blurb whore critic quote on the back cover proclaims. It follows a lot of the common horror movie tropes, almost to a fault. That said, the only major gripe I had about the film was the unnecessary introduction of the Annabelle doll. The scenes that centered about the demonic doll had nothing to do with the plot and could have been easily deleted without negatively affecting anything. I get the feeling that the filmmakers added the Annabelle scenes because they had plans to make a spin-off involving her.
If you don't own the other films in the Conjuring universe, you can buy most of them in the The Conjuring 7-Film Collection Blu-ray set. To have a complete Conjuring Universe Blu-ray collection, add in The Nun II (also on 4K UHD - reviewed here), The Curse of La Lorona (reviewed here), Shazam (reviewed here), Shazam:Fury of the Gods (reviewed here), and Aquaman (reviewed here); those last three become part of the universe due to the appearance of the demon doll.
