Shot On Site - East Pavilion Hospital Stock Footage
By Paul Rudoff on Feb. 5, 2015 at 8:28 PM in Filming Locations
Today's Shot on Site article will be a little different than the rest. Instead of focusing on a TV show or movie and ID'ing the locations used within, I will be writing about a piece of stock footage I've seen in a few different shows.
In many different shows I've seen an exterior shot of a hospital with the words "East Pavilion" written above the entrance. It recently appeared in an episode of the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover, but I've seen it in other shows, too. Sadly, I can't remember what they are as I type this. I thought Good Luck Charlie was one, but a quick check shows me that a different hospital is used there.
My only hope of finding the real location was to do an image search for "east pavilion hospital" and hope that it pops up. Luckily, I found it thanks to the Northwest Rheumatology website (link under first photo). It's the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (East Pavilion) at 9155 SW Barnes Road, Portland, OR 97225 (the best I could do with Google Maps is an overhead photo - note the large fountain).

I couldn't find any super great shots of the place, but the photo above (which has been enlarged) shows me that it's the place. Below is another photo of the entire building. In however many years it's been since the stock footage was taken, they've built several more buildings on the campus.

[UPDATE - 5/2/2015] The hospital stock footage pops up in the Scorpion episode "Postcards From The Edge", which aired on April 20, 2015.
[UPDATE - 2/13/2020] The hospital stock footage pops up several times in The Mindy Project (2012-2017). I've already seen it appear at the start of the Season 1 episodes "Two To One" (December 4, 2012) and "Hooking Up Is Hard" (January 22, 2013) when I reviewed the complete series Blu-ray box set. The footage used in "Hooking Up Is Hard" is the exact same footage used in the Scorpion episode listed above, which is why there was no need to do a screenshot of it.

I was glad to find this page! My son was born here and I’ve seen this East Pavilion footage on Scrubs, the X Files, and at least one other show. I knew it was Providence ST. Vincent’s when I saw it because I have been there so many times, but there’s not much about it on the web considering how many shows it’s appeared in.
Maybe those details don’t fascinate people as much as they do me. But anyway. Thanks for posting this!
The same shot from KC Undercover appears in the new Netflix docudrama “The Dirt” when Vince Neill learns that his daughter has stomach cancer. My daughter was born at St Vincent’s and my father passed away there. I recognized it right away.
It’s in an episode of the Sopranos as well. Our daughter was born there last year and I jumped out of my seat when I saw it on the show.
I used to live near here and went to this hospital frequently. It was also in an episode of the golden girls!
It was in The O.C. I was trying to find out if I was right and stumbled upon this page! I Have been there, and taught dance in the daycare. I knew it! Thank you!
Season 2, Episode 3 @ 3 minutes of the OC if you want to confirm. :)
The east pavilion also appears in charmed season 2 episode 12
Just popped up in an episode of Supernatural. Season 6 episode 11. I first saw the footage in the movie The Dirt, it’s a fun little game trying to find it in other places now. I have walked past that fountain countless times over the last three years.
Our kids were born there as well and we recently noticed it while watching an old episode of The Sopranos, season 2. We didn’t catch it on our initial viewing of the show, but having visited the hospital and nearby doctors offices multiple times since, it is was hard to miss.
I just saw in on that episode of Charmed, but a hospital in San Francisco was given credit. The same San Francisco hospital was given credit for being the setting of Scrubs.
I just saw this hospital on an episode of The O.C.
I guess it was the 7th episode of the 1st season.
I was trying to find more information about this hospital because I’m sure I saw an old movie with the same location but couldn’t find online.
Cold Case “A Time to Hate” (Season 1, Episode 7) has a shot of the East Pavilion at St. Vincent’s in Portland. As it happened, I was at the hospital the same day I saw a clip of the episode, so it definitely caught me eye. I know the series is set in Philadelphia and most of the filming was done there, so I paused the video to make sure of what I was seeing. Sure enough, fountain and all.
